The Power of Ai: Make your learning fit you
by Emily Nichols | 17th Nov 2025 | Hethel Innovation
Picture this: a kitchen table scattered with crayons, cereal bowls, and dreams, a child tracing out a plan for learning the piano before summer ends. As any parent knows, the plan will be chaotic to say the least, with stickers for “practice days” and doodles marking significant milestones. Much like a child’s learning, real growth asks for both structure and play, especially when time is short and curiosity is boundless.
Now imagine using AI to act as the gentle grown-up in this scene, not to dictate every move, but to help paint the edges, bring a little structure to the schedule, and nudge when a nap or a creative detour is needed. Learning is not about the neatness of the timetable. It’s about belonging to the process, discovering hidden talents, and building self-belief along the way.
Playful Structure: From Blocks to Brilliance
Think of learning as building with LEGO. AI doesn’t know what to make; it presents its ideas, which need the proper instructions, presenting the right piece, just as a builder needs it, sometimes starting with the foundations, other times with the final flourishes.
The secret is all in the prompting: let it know exactly what you need to achieve, be honest with your knowledge base, and if you find yourself needing to adapt, use prompts to pivot and recraft your learning plan. This way, the system adapts, always keeping the finish line visible and the path personal designed by you, to meet your exact needs.
Innovation and Inclusion: Trailblazing with Technology
This AI-powered approach is changing who gets to call themselves a “self-directed learner.” For those juggling jobs, kids, or neurodiverse needs, just like me, doing all three. I work with it, even inputting instructions around what type of tone, humour or levels of empathy I respond well to. This makes the whole process more engaging, so in this fast-paced world, I can upskill confidently, and, most importantly, more people are discovering that learning isn’t just for the “naturals.”
Legacy: Writing the Next Chapter Together
So, picture that kitchen table again, but now with a timeline drawn in marker, and a few blank spaces for improvisation and play. AI, when designed and prompted to serve a specific, tailored need rather than dictate, is the wise companion helping each learner draw their own map, adjust the route as life changes, and celebrate the small wins.
The future isn’t just a well-organised to-do list.
It’s a garden of wildflowers in a field once thought barren. When used well and assertively, algorithms become a tool to enhance what you are capable of. Because the true magic of learning isn’t in efficiency alone, it’s in the freedom to wander, wonder, and write a legacy of possibility, one day, one lesson, one child at the kitchen table at a time. Or in my case, one busy, working, neurodivergent mum.
