Adam Buckingham

Head of Estate at Scottow Enterprise Park

My role as Head of Estate at Scottow Enterprise Park is to oversee on site strategy and development, including its historic legacy, operational management, financial performance, business community and economic growth.  I work with a great team of people who are all extremely committed to providing fantastic services to the estate and our member customers and continue to develop and improve the facilities and support wherever possible.

Having been around a while I have a varied background in property asset and estate management. From my early years in retail and leisure customer focused organisations, I learnt that good business demands a constant need to reinvent and improve the customer offer and experience for the client.

What I enjoy most is seeing the smallest and the largest of businesses grow and develop into successful thriving enterprises. My aim is to ensure that we do the best we can to provide the facilities and assistance that helps all Members on the park to develop their businesses successfully. Sometimes we struggle but we always endeavour to do our best to help and provide what’s needed.

From the age of seventeen I spent nine years in architectural practices learning the detail of putting buildings together that would provide great environments for their users.  Having since worked in the UK and Europe in different sectors I have a perspective and appreciation of working culture business diversity and a commitment to creating built environments and space that reflects the needs of our HIL clients.

My current role provides me the opportunity to develop HIL’s property portfolio providing excellent estate services and to developing a wider offer to the members in the Hethel Network.

You’re on a deserted island and can only bring one meal with you to eat indefinitely, what would it be and why?

Cornflakes and cold milk, no matter how many times you have it it’s still great and you can eat it at any time of the day, I can testify to that!  I could also collect enough milk bottles to lash together to build a raft,  or maybe a bacon sandwich?  and forget the raft.

It’s a tough one.

What would your coworkers be surprised to learn about you?

I was brought up as a very pale English Mowgli, spending most of my childhood running around barefoot in Zambia / Malawi in the bush in just a pair of shorts.  Highlights included climbing for mulberries, eating fried flying ants, being permanently on alert for wild dogs, generally avoiding nasty bugs like spiny caterpillars but also being close to some amazing wildlife and open country.

What 3 things in your bag can’t you live without?

GPS phone, Sat nav, inflatable boat!
