Hethel Innovation is proud to announce the launch of a state-of-the-art Skills and Innovation Centre at Gateway 14, a pivotal development within the Freeport East business and logistics park. Designed to accelerate business growth and cultivate cutting-edge advancements, the Centre is set to become a hub for pioneering enterprises in the green economy and digital/AI technology.

A Transformational Hub for Business and Training

The new three-storey Centre will offer dynamic office spaces for high-growth start-ups, flexible collaboration and innovation areas, well-equipped meeting rooms, and a modern café. More than just an office environment, the facility will host advanced training programs developed in close collaboration with leading educational partners, including the University of Suffolk, University of Essex, West Suffolk College, Suffolk New College, and Colchester Institute. This integrated approach is tailored to address the region’s skills gap and ensure a pipeline of talent ready to drive future innovation.

A Collaborative Vision Backed by Strategic Investment

The Centre is a joint effort, with Freeport East contributing £16.66 million towards the project’s total cost of £18.8 million, while Mid Suffolk District Council supports the remainder. As the awarded operator, Hethel Innovation will leverage its extensive experience in innovation management—having supported hundreds of businesses and generated over 1,500 jobs through our established hubs in Norfolk—to foster an ecosystem where creativity meets commercial success.

With additional developments underway—including a new distribution centre for Ipswich-based Bauder and a forthcoming £45m factory for Assan Panel—the area is rapidly evolving into a vibrant nexus of innovation, logistics, and industry. This collective momentum not only fuels regional economic expansion but also sets a benchmark for future public-private collaborations.
