Jezz Seville
I am Jezz Seville, the Operations Manager here at HEC. My role here is to oversee operations, mainly from a maintenance perspective. I engage with tenants at all levels in a customer-focused way. My background/experience started as a plumbing and heating engineer, later moving on into commercial and domestic gas. After several years on the tools, I took the opportunity to progress into a Team Coordinator position, looking after a small team of 12 maintenance guys covering all aspects of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and general building fabric. Again, moving forward I took on the job as Labour Manager for the same company, this entailed managing a maintenance workforce of 50 in house staff and up to 20 contractors. My last role was as Compliance Manager; all 4 roles were served at UEA over a 23-year period.
As Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day running of a business to ensure everything operates efficiently and effectively.
This includes:
· Managing processes and workflows to improve productivity
· Leading and supporting teams to meet performance targets
· Monitoring budgets, resources, and operational costs
· Ensuring quality standards and customer satisfaction
· Solving problems quickly and making strategic decisions
· Coordinating between different departments (e.g. HR, finance, logistics)
· Implementing improvements to systems and procedures
Overall, the role focuses on ensuring the business runs smoothly while continually seeking ways to improve performance.
What I Enjoy About Being an Operations Manager. What I enjoy most about this role is the variety and impact it brings. Every day presents new challenges, and I like being in a position where I can solve problems and make a real difference to how a business performs. I enjoy working with people—supporting teams, helping them develop, and seeing them succeed. There’s also a strong sense of satisfaction in improving processes and making things more efficient, especially when those changes lead to better results for both the business and customers. I also appreciate the balance between strategic thinking and hands-on involvement. It allows me to step back and plan improvements while still being actively engaged in daily operations.
