Our Business Showcase series is a collection of case studies and interviews from companies and individuals that we have provided business support to.
In our latest edition of our Business Showcase series, we spoke to Chris Marsh of Venture Risks Group Ltd., a company that Hethel Innovation have interacted with regularly over the past year, and are looking forward to working with more in the future!
Who are Venture Risks Group, and what do they do?
Venture Risks Group Ltd. is a business run by entrepreneurs who advise businesess on how to manage and protect the businesses balance sheet, business reputation and the directors personal assets . We work with our clients to become trusted advisors rather than a portal to provide insurance renewal and deal with claims.
How do you differentiate yourselves from conventional insurance brokers?
We work in a totally different way to conventional insurance brokers. We focus on the business as a whole and really get into the detail – as the saying goes the devil is always in the detail. We believe that you must understand the business and what drives the owners and directors before you can truly advise. Insurers are always commenting on the fact that we give them so much more information than most other brokers and this enables them to truly protect the business whilst the information we provide gives insurers the confidence and security to provide very competitive premiums. We use our extensive network to introduce like minded businesses so they can share experiences, expertise and ultimately trade with each other.
What are some common misconceptions surrounding insurance?
Insurance people are dull! Well sadly most are but we like to think we are not.
People feel Insurers are always looking for a reason not to pay claims. If you have the right insurer and they understand the risk we find this is not the case . One of our major supporting insurers are proud of their claims service and have two mottos – “If its grey we pay” and “you can lose us money but not our reputation”.
How do you see the current trading environment for businesses?
There is a great deal of uncertainty still in the world and UK in particular. Currency fluctuations are hitting businesses and with lack of confidence brings an un willingness to expand and invest. The recent report in lack of investment in the motor sector is an example of this. We are however still seeing great growth in emerging technologies and the tech sectors. A recent tech nation report puts the UK 4th in the world in terms of scale up investment and this bodes well for the future.
What are your ambitions for the next 12 months?
To continue to grow our business and continue to support businesses as the grow and expand. I want to be in a position where we are regarded as part of all our clients extended management team, being that trusted advisor and creating a business network and community that supports each other in good times and bad.
